Vickers reported the cemetery looked great for Memorial Day and many thanks to Ron Bogart for completing the brick walkway.
Henney reported the fire department is keeping busy as they have had many fires in the past couple of months.
Symonds reported two (2) inspections for the previous month.
Calhoun reported that a special planning commission meeting has been called for July 13, 2011 to discuss a zoning change application.
Feazel reported that positive things are in store for the 175th.
A discussion on raising the pay range for deputy clerk, deputy treasurer, deputy supervisor, assistant assessor, election chair and clerical categories followed because it had been four years since any of these categories had received an increase. This would pertain to Deb Parmelee primarily as she gets paid from all of these categories. Several comments were made both for and against the increase but since there was no consensus the issue was dropped for the time being. Everyone was in agreement that the raise was deserved but some felt it would be sending the wrong message in these difficult economic times to give a pay increase.
Henney reported that Bill Conklin, Managing Director for the Ingham County Road Commission, stated it is possible to roll this years road improvement match forward. This will be on the July agenda for discussion.
Jason Orton, our representative from the David Chapman Agency, gave the board an insurance update. Orton stated the new MTA workers comp self insured program will be up and running as of July 1, 2011 and the program is very cost effective. Orton also stated our renewals are very comparable to last year.
Correspondence was received from the Michigan State Police regarding language for our upcoming news flier, Ingham County Treasurer's Office regarding foreclosed property for unpaid property taxes, Thrun Law Firm regarding the planning enabling act, a thank you note from Deb Corts regarding the publishing of the 175th celebration cookbooks and the Ingham County Road Commission regarding estimated typical costs and road ratings.
A discussion on the importance of keeping roads in good condition followed.
Adjourned 6:58 P.M.
